The chute is installed in a constructed shaft with a hatch on each floor that when opened enables garbage to be placed inside and fall down.
When the garbage reaches the bottom of the chute it slides on an angle into the garbage bin.
Description of the garbage chute parts
1. Ventilation device
The bellows are installed within the maintenance room. It is adjusted to 20 air replacements per hour and to resistance based on the height of the building.
2. Cleaning and rinsing mechanism
The mechanism contains three parts: hanging device, winch and brush. The winch is electric and has a bi-directional operating system (works both upwards and downwards). The winch motor has an anti-heating protection break. The 570mm diameter brush is made of stiff plastic fibers resistant to acids and oils. When cleaning the pipe (up or down) the brush scrubs the sides of the pipe. The cleaning mechanism should be used once daily and access should be provided for maintenance of the device.
3. Dry garbage chute
The chute is made of 304 stainless steel sheeting 1.0mm thick. The internal diameter of the chute is 570mm. Chute segments are connected so the upper section has a conical neck on its bottom part that fits into the section below it. Chute segments and all cutting, drilling, welding and polishing work are carried out in the plant. The internal surface of the chute is completely smooth and free of protrusions or depressions.
The hatches are made of stainless steel sheeting and uphold requirements of Israeli Standard 1212. Every hatch is equipped with a hammock that blocks the drop opening in “door open” position. The hatch closes independently if not blocked thanks to a gas piston that stops it from closing abruptly to ensure safe use by residents and prevent acoustic disturbance. A floor control panel is an integral part of the hatch frame, designed to warn residents that the cleaning mechanism is operating.
5. Garbage drops
The drops are made of 1.0mm thick 304 stainless steel sheeting and are located on all floors designated for garbage disposal. The drops are prepared in advance and all welding, drilling,
cutting and polishing work is carried out at the plant. The internal surface of the drop is completely smooth and free of protrusions or depressions. The drop opening is 400*400mm and the height of the bottom part of the drop is 700mm from the room floor.
6. Sprinkler boxes
The boxes are made of 1.0mm thick 304 stainless steel sheeting and are located on every uneven floor, beginning from the first floor of the chute. Each box contains a hold whose diameter is adapted to insertion of the sprinkler. Additionally, there is a cover that can be dismantled in order to install the sprinkler with a flexible connection should one be required. The depth of the box prevents the sprinkler from protruding into the chute space.
7. Acoustic angle
The angle is made of 1.5mm thick 304 stainless steel sheeting and has a double wall on the bottom that protects from mechanical damage when the garbage is dropped. The angle is prepared in advance and all welding, drilling, cutting and polishing work is carried out at the plant. The internal surface of the angle is completely smooth and free of protrusions or depressions. Because the angle may be a source of noise when garbage drops, it is assembled so as to decrease noise as much as possible:
* Gap between the angle and the dry garbage chute: the angle diameter is 625mm and it is installed in a way that ensures complete disconnection between the angle and vertical pipe, to prevent sound waves spreading upwards from the angle.
* Prevention of tremors and resonance: the angle is installed on a special device with a telescopic shock absorber and vulcanized rubber separation ring at least 30mm thick, 60-70 shore hardness and 300% elasticity factor.
8. Smoke barrier
The barrier is installed at the opening of the angle and is designed to block fire from entering the chute in case of fire in the garbage bins. The barrier does not block the opening in regular situations (normally open) since the opening will be blocked by the barrier due to action of the fire/smoke detection system or standard fuse that melts at 72°C.
